TAKE ACTION TO SAVE THE CARMEL VALLEY POLICE STATION

Our Community
Is at Risk

Mayor Todd Gloria’s proposed 2026 budget will eliminate the Northwestern Police Station — the only station directly serving Carmel Valley, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Torrey Hills, Del Mar Mesa, and Del Mar Heights.

If this station closes:

  • According to SDPD’s own budget document, “Many of the proposed adjustments could negatively impact disparities. Dissolving Northwestern division to relocate traffic division may impact patrol response times and could weaken collaboration between police and residence and surrounding communities.”

  • Police coverage will be transferred to a station twice as far away.

  • Expected delays in response times

  • "Eliminate six leadership positions, including the Northwestern Division Captain, Lieutenant, one Detective and three Sergeants”.

  • Reassigning our area’s patrol officers to the Rancho Peñasquitos Station.

  • Our schools, homes, and businesses will become more vulnerable

This affects every family, student, senior, and small business in our community.

Our Community Isn’t Low-Crime — It’s Well-Served.

There’s a misleading narrative suggesting that Carmel Valley, Del Mar Heights, Del Mar Mesa, and Pacific Highlands Ranch are “low-crime” areas that no longer need a nearby police station.

That’s false. In 2024, these neighborhoods reported hundreds of incidents — including assaults, vehicle thefts, break-ins, drug violations, and vandalism.

Just in Carmel Valley alone:

  • 121 Crimes Against Persons, including 20 aggravated assaults and 31 cases of intimidation

  • 529 Property Crimes, including 54 burglaries, 89 vehicle thefts, and 73 incidents of vandalism

  • Additional cases of fraud, drug offenses, and animal cruelty

So why do our communities feel safe?
Because we’ve had the benefit of:

  • Proximity-based policing

  • Rapid officer response times

  • Consistent community presence and deterrence

The City’s proposed closure of the Northwestern Police Station would eliminate all of that. This isn’t a debate about budget. It’s about the real impact of delayed help when it matters most.

We can’t afford to lose what’s made our community safe.

We Must Act Now

Together, we can make our voice heard and impact this decision.
